Interpol arrests antique dealer
Authorities in Germany has arrested Subash Kapoor, one of the biggest and notorious antique idol smugglers who is wanted in 18 idol theft cases in India.
He was arrested on an Interpol Red Corner Notice, which was issued on the request of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
According to sources the CBI has initiated the process for the extradition of Subash Kapoor. The agency has already written to the external affairs ministry to expedite the process for the extradition of Kapoor, who is wanted by the Tamil Nadu police in connection with missing of 17 antique idols from different temples of the state. “Kapoor, who is a resident of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh (UP), is also wanted by the UP and Rajasthan police. Recently, his activities (involving the sale of priceless idols stolen from temples in India, especially Tamil Nadu) came into the notice of German security agencies which later informed Interpol headquarters.
Subsequently, he was arrested by agencies concerned in Germany.
