Interpol lauds security for Games
The Interpol has appreciated the Indian security agencies for their “collaborative” efforts with international law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety of participants and spectators flocking the national capital for the Commonwealth Games.
Interpol secretary general Ronald K. Noble said Indian authorities did a commendable job. “With India hosting hundreds of thousands of visitors during the Commonwealth Games (October 3-14), Interpol deployed at the request of Indian authorities a Major Events Support Team (MEST) to support the security efforts of Indian authorities ahead of and during the event,” he said.

Deora gives `9 crores for medallists
New Delhi, Oct. 14: Oil minister Murli Deora on Thursday said a reward of about `9 crores will be shared by the Indian athletes that secured a record haul of medals at the 19th Commonwealth Games that concluded here on Thursday.
Congratulating the Indian players, Mr Deora said: “Their excellent performance would motivate more youths taking to sports and make India a strong sporting nation in coming years.”
The Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), whose patron is Mr Deora, will give `10 lakhs to every gold medalist, `7.5 lakh to every silver medalist and `5 lakh to every bronze medalist, an official statement said. —PTI

CBI official detained near JN Stadium

Oct. 14: A security scare was triggered outside JN Stadium when a Tata Sumo bearing a fake home ministry sticker was intercepted by security personnel outside the venue and a CBI official travelling in the vehicle was detained on Thursday morning.
Sources said the incident took place at around 9.30 am on Thursday. The police had flashed a message to Central security agencies and Central command centre on Wednesday about a suspicious vehicle that had entered Delhi from Noida with a UP registration number. Acting on the input, a group of cops spotted a Tata Sumo at gate number one of CGO complex.

Games lane: 21 more vehicles fined

Oct. 14: The Delhi police on Thursday challaned 21 vehicles for entering the Games lane reserved for the Games vehicles, taking the total number of challans issued over the last fortnight to 2,321.
The traffic police officials said the restrictions will remain in place till October 17. “The restrictions will remain in force till all the athletes and delegates leave the city. Restrictions may be lifted from some routes, which will not be used by the delegates and information in that regard will be conveyed to the public accordingly,” joint commissioner of traffic police, Satyendra Garg said.
