IPS officer in UP faces CBI action
The CBI has sought permission from the Uttar Pradesh government to prosecute senior IPS officer J. Ravindra Gaud in a fake encounter case during his posting in Bareilly district in 2007.
The officer is presently posted as senior superintendent of police (SSP) Lucknow.
Principal secretary home, R.M. Srivastava, said the government was yet to take final decision on the CBI request.
“We received the CBI request and legal opinion is being sought on how to go about it,” he said.
It may be recalled that on June 30, 2007, Mr Gaud lodged a police complaint in the capacity of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bareilly that his police team got a tip-off about some persons, who had planned to rob a bank, would pass through Fatehganj area on a Tata Sumo.
