Italian marines trying to delay trial, says state
The state has alleged that the Italian marines were intentionally trying to delay trial proceedings in the Italian firing case in which two fishermen were shot dead by Italian Marines who were on board the Enrica Lexi on February 15. The trial continued on Tuesday at the district and sessions court, Kollam in its third posting.
Special public prosecutor advocate Mohanraj, who appeared for the state, alleged that the Italian defence was intentionally delaying the trial process arguing for unnecessary and not withstanding points at the court.
Regarding the apprehension raised about the translation panel by the defence, the prosecution argued that the Italian counsel general was the competent person who could handle English and Italian languages and be a better interpreter for the marines.
