J’khand: Congress leaders meet Sonia
With Jharkhand reeling under another spell of political uncertainty, the top leadership of the Congress from the state on Thursday called on AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and apprised her about the latest situation there. They also discussed issues relating to Rajya Sabha nomination from the state.
Briefing mediapersons after the meeting Jharkhand PCC president Pradeep Balmuchu said, “We are for a popular government in the state, not for President’s Rule.” But AICC in charge of the state K. Keshav Rao, however, remained evasive on the issue by only claiming that the Congress is “approaching the issue with a positive frame of mind”.
Sources said that while the meeting pertained to the RS polls in the state, the leaders also discussed the possibility of Congress forming the government in alliance with Babu Lal Marandi-led Jharkhand Vikas Morcha and Shibu Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
A senior party leader from the state said that Mr Marandi had asked for one RS seat, which the UPA can send. “We met Congress president and discussed with her all issues relating to Rajya Sabha elections. We gave her the real picture of the state. Together we have 25 votes, whereas to elect a member to Rajya Sabha the requirement is of 27 votes. We are sure to get one out of the two going for polls,” he said.
