Jackal devours baby as mum works in field
A fourteen-month-old baby boy was devoured by a jackal while her mother was working in a field, near here on Thursday.
Siddamma, a resident of Belur (J) village, had left her baby sleeping on a gunny bag spread under a tree while she worked in the adjacent field.
When she heard some noise, she turned around only to see her son Rukkesh being carried away by the jackal in its mouth.
She chased the animal in a bid to rescue her son, but it quickly disappeared in the field with the baby.
Hearing her cries for help, the villagers rushed to the spot, but could not trace the baby. They continued the search operation on Thursday night too under torch light, but in vain.
On Friday morning, police and forest guards too joined the villagers in the search. Finally, they recovered only the head about 1 km away from the field from where the child was taken away.
Girl student kills self in residential school
A 14-year-old ninth standard girl at the Kittur Rani Chenamma Residential School in Hunsur taluk of Mysore district hanged herself at the hostel on Friday morning.
Roopa from Benkipura in Belekeri hobli, who had gone for bath, hanged herself with a rope from the shower tap in the bathroom. Other girls, who were waiting for nearly an hour, sensed trouble and broke open the door.
The police were informed immediately.The victim’s parents Maridasa Nayaka and Manchamma were shocked and could not pinpoint the reason behind their daughter’s suicide.
Roopa has not left behind any suicide note.
