Jagan files application with EC for new party
The son of the late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, former Congress MP Jagan Mohan Reddy, through his close relative Y.V. Subba Reddy, filed an application on Wednesday with the Election Commission for his soon-to-be launched political party.
The regional outfit is likely to have the name of the late YSR.
Talking to reporters after filing the application, Mr Subba Reddy refused to reveal the name of the party. When pressed further, he said, “I cannot say what the name will be but it will have the name of the late YSR. The process is expected to end in some time after which the name of the party will be made public.”
Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy had recently revealed that he intends to enter the Lok Sabha and not the Assembly, as widely expected. He had earlier resigned as Kadappa MP and quit the Congress, blaming the party and the high command of humiliating him and his family.
His mother Vijayalaxmi, too, had resigned from the Pulivendla Assembly constituency.
Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy also had announced that he does not intend to destabilise the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh as it was put in place by his father, the late YSR, and is prepared to wait till the 2014 Assembly elections.
It is believed that Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy has set in motion the process of getting his party registered only to ensure that his outfit is in place to contest the byelections for Kadappa and Pulivendla whenever they are announced.
