Jagan Reddy freed on bail, is greeted by huge crowds
After 16 months in judicial custody, YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy walked out of Chanchalguda Central Prison on Tuesday evening at 4 pm after getting bail.
There were scenes of jubilation outside the prison with “Jai Jagan” and “Tiger is back” slogans and posters greeting the Kadapa MP. Top YSRC leaders, including his uncle Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, waited outside the jail. “This is very happy news and we are all excited about his release. Finally, only the truth prevails and this is definitely a good day for us,” Mr Vivekananda Reddy said.
Thousands of people from Srikakulam, Nellore and Anantapur and also, interestingly, a large number of people from the Telangana region, were present at the jail. More than 200 supporters from Khammam and from Nalgonda, Karimnagar and other districts were also there.
The Minority Welfare Association of Khammam also released white pigeons to mark his release from jail.
Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s journey to his home in his bulletproof Scorpio took him six hours and looked like a triumphal procession. His delighted supporters thronged the route and swarmed around the vehicle to shake his hand. The route was lined with huge banners and posters, and security personnel had a tough time keeping supporters away from the vehicle.
His mother Y.S. Vijaya-lakshmi, sister Sharmila, wife Bharati and two daughters were waiting for him at his home close to Lotus Pond in Jubilee Hills. They welcomed him with the age-old ritual of breaking open a pumpkin to keep away bad omens.
