'Jagan's exit from Cong won't pose threat to AP govt'

Jagan Mohan Reddy's resignation from the Congress and Lok Sabha will not pose a threat to the Andhra Pradesh government, the state Congress said on Tuesday.

"There is no threat to the government at all. The government will be strong and there is absolutely no problem," AP Congress chief D. Srinivas told reporters here.

On some Congress MLAs and MLCs meeting Mr Jagan and making critical remarks against the party, he said the actions of all legislators are being watched.

"The case of MLA Konda Surekha, a Jagan loyalist who has been making critical comments on the party leaders, is before the high command," he said.

When pointed out that some Congress MLAs and MLCs have visited late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's samadhi at the Idupulapaya family estate in Kadapa district, where Mr
Jagan is currently camping, the PCC president said there was nothing wrong in paying respect to Reddy.

On the impact of Jagan's resignation on Congress, he said, "Wait and see." Mr Srinivas held a meeting with party office bearers and other leaders on Tuesday, condemning the actions of Jagan's followers who are burning effigies and posters of Congress president Mrs Sonia Gandhi at various places in the state.

"The statue of Pandit Nehru was insulted at one place. They are insulting Sonia Gandhiji's posters. These incidents are horrible and highly condemnable. Jagan made an appeal to his followers not resort to such incidents, but that is not followed on the ground," he said.

The PCC president asked the district functionaries to see that the incidents of burning posters of Mrs Gandhi are prevented.
