Jaipal: MP mustn’t take Centre’s credit
Union minister for urban development Jaipal Reddy said here on Friday that the state government should not take credit for schemes introduced or funded by the government of India. Mr Reddy was addressing the state-level convention of elected representatives of local bodies organised by the state Congress unit to mark the death anniversary Rajiv Gandhi.
Other prominent speakers were AICC general secretary in-charge Madhya Pradesh B.K. Hari Prasad and state Congress president Suresh Pachouri.
Mr Reddy said that 30 per cent of India’s population lives in cities and urbanisation is unavoidable. By 2050, 50 per cent of our population will live in urban areas, he said, adding we need to be prepared for urban change. Credit should go to the Congress, particularly the pioneering vision of Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh, he said.
for launching the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission way back in 2004.
The process of urbanisation in Madhya Pradesh is slow but four cities — Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Ujjain — have been selected in this state for special attention, he said.
