‘Japan has great education opportunities’

Bihar’s Super 30 institute founder Anand Kumar, famous for grooming students from underprivileged sections for admission in the IITs, on Sunday said Japan has great opportunities in higher education and research for underprivileged Indian students.

Currently on a weeklong visit to Japan on the invitation of the Japanese government to explore the emerging prospects for Indian students in the island nation, Mr Kumar met in Tokyo acclaimed scientist Kiyoshi Kurokawa, professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies and the science advisor to the Japan government. They together underlined the need for greater cooperation between the two countries in the field of science and technology education.
“It is important to make Japan an education hub for Indian students with a basket of courses, backed by scholarships and other incentives,” said Kumar in a communiqué. “Today USA, Europe and Australia attract maximum Indian students to their higher education institutions. But students who are vastly talented but from poor families cannot afford them. Japan has tremendous opportunities in store for such students,” he added.
“Out of 1.4 lakh foreign students annually coming to Japan, India’s contribution is only 600. With Japan wishing to increase the number of its foreign students to three lakh by 2020, Indian students certainly have much to gain with scholarships,” said Mr Anand Kumar.
