Javed Akhtar gets death threat mail

Lyricist Javed Akhtar on Saturday received a death threat over email criticising him for his comments on Darul uloom Deoband’s fatwa against working Muslim women. The cyber crime police station has registered a case against unknown persons after Akhtar approached them.

The Darul uloom Deoband — the Muslim body had reportedly issued a fatwa against Muslim families accepting a women’s earnings and had claimed that the Sharia law had prohibited their proximity to men in the workplace. Additional commissioner of police Amitabh Gupta (west region) said, “Javed Akhtar has approached us and told about the threat mail that he received. A case has been registered against an unknown sender with the cyber police station.”
