Jaya Bachchan gets her seat changed in Rajya Sabha
Jaya Bachchan will be seated away from her Silsila co-star Rekha in the Rajya Sabha after her request for a change of place was accepted.
A nominated member, Rekha who was rumoured to have romanced Amitabh Bachchan in the late 70s, would occupy seat no 99 while Jaya has been moved to seat no 143 from 91. Sachin Tendulkar, another nominated member, has been allotted seat no 103 in Rajya Sabha.
According to Parliament sources, Tendulkar has been given a seat in between liquor baron Vijay Mallya and eminent agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan. Mallya, an independent member from Karnataka, occupies seat no 102 while Swaminathan's seat no is 104.
Industrialist Anu Agha, another nominated member, has been given seat no 98 next to Rekha.
According to sources, the Samajwadi Party decided to rearrange the seat arrangements of their members, after party MP Jaya Bachchan sought to change her seat with fellow member Kiranmoy Nanda (seat no 143).
When Jaya sought to change her seat, there was speculation that she wanted to do so to maintain a distance from Rekha.
Jaya was allotted seat no 91 along with party colleague Brij Bhushan Tiwari, who died on April 25.
The on-screen and off-screen relationship of Jaya's husband Amitabh and Rekha has always provided fodder to Bollywood gossip mills. The two acted in films like Do Anjaane (1976), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978), Mr Natwarlal (1979), Suhaag (1979) and Silsila (1981), where Rekha played the other woman.
Meanwhile, there was no information as to when Rekha along with Tendulkar will take oath. Their term has begun from April 27.
