Nagam meets Rajnath, all set to join BJP
Telangana Nagara Samiti president and Nagarkurnool independent MLA Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy is all set to join the BJP and contest from the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha seat, presently held by TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Reports of Nagam joining the BJP have been doing the rounds for some time. On Thursday along with BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy, Nagam Janardhan Reddy met BJP national president Rajnath Singh, and had a one-hour long meeting with him.
Later, speaking to newsmen he said that he will go back to people of the constituency and consult with them before joining the BJP.
“I have not taken a final decision to join the BJP, but will take some time to decide,” he told media in Delhi. He said that it was very clear that the Congress is not going to grant a Telangana despite its promises.
“T-state is only possible with the BJP;  Telangana people should wholeheartedly support BJP candidates in Telangana,” he added.
However, Kishan Reddy confirmed the fact that Nagam was joining the BJP and said that they only discussed modalities.
Nagam, a five-time MLA from Nagarkurnool, was in the TD for most part of his 35-political career. He left the TD due to differences with TD supremo Chandrababu Naidu.
over the party's stand on the Telangana issue and quit the party. He also resigned his TDP membership, contested in the bypolls and won with a huge margin.
Later, he started the Telangana Nagara Samithi along with TD MLAs K. Hariswara Reddy who later joined the TRS and S. Venugopala Chary who was suspended from the party.
BJP leader A P Jitender Reddy who was MP from Mehbubnagar earlier, switched loyalties to the TD and later to the TRS and has been cleared by KCR as the TRS nominee for the
Mehbubnagar Lok Sabha seat. Reports suggest that Nagam's son is eyeing the Nagarkurnool Assembly seat in his father’s place.
