Jaya promises K-power in two months
CM J. Jayalalithaa told the TN Assembly Thursday Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) was expected to start electricity generation in two months.
With the much-awaited commissioning of the plant, the power crisis in the state is likely to ease by June.
Nuclear scientists have been working round-the-clock to commission KKNPP as early as possible after CM gave it the go-head last week.
Her decision came after a state expert panel submitted that the plant was safe and locals agitating against it were misguided by anti-nuclear activists.
Meanwhile, a three-member Union home ministry team raided a trust run by PMANE convener S.P. Udayakumar in Nagercoil.
Mr Udayakumar is leading the anti-nuclear protests. The raid under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act follows minister of state in PMO V. Narayanasamy’s charge that PMANE was receiving foreign funds to sustain the stir.
