Jaya walks extra mile for PM
Setting aside the bitterness seen in the Centre’s attitude towards her appeals on critical issues facing Tamil Nadu, chief minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday walked the extra mile, calling upon Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Raj Bhavan and presenting a 16-page memo restating the state’s urgent needs and seeking his quick intervention.
Earlier, she received the PM when he arrived by a special aircraft on a two-day visit, his first to Tamil Nadu after her AIADMK stormed into power.
Ms Jayalalithaa detailed the Kerala government’s “injudicious actions” in not only ignoring the Supreme Court order to raise the water level in Mullaiperiyar dam to 142 ft after it concluded the dam was safe, but also carrying on propaganda “to create panic” about the dam’s safety and insisting on constructing a new dam.
