Jayalalithaa says 2G case is being diluted

“It definitely looks as though it [2G spectrum case] is getting diluted,” chief minister J. Jayalalithaa reacted to a Delhi court granting bail Tuesday to former telecom minister A. Raja, the prime accused in the multi-crore-rupee 2G spectrum case.

“I am hearing from you. It definitely looks as though it is getting diluted,” she told reporters here.
On the Aircel-Maxis issue involving Union home minister P. Chidambaram, CM said: “Supreme Court is the only hope in the matter.”

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has to substantiate his allegations and Mr Chidambaram has to defend himself, she added.

Raja was the first to be arrested in the Rs 30,000-crore 2G scam on February 2, 2011. But he is the last accused to walk out of Tihar Jail, 15 months and 13 days later.

Raja did not seek bail before amid speculation that he faced a life threat and was more secure in jail, especially after aide and realtor Sadiq Batcha, being questioned by CBI in the 2G case, was found hanging in his residence in Chennai March last year.

Raja moved court after Supreme Court released former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura and his erstwhile personal secretary R.K. Chandolia last week.

DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s daughter and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi and four co-accused, including Kalaignar TV director Sharad Kumar, got bail in November last year after six months in jail.

Mr Karunanidhi was happy. “All in DMK support Raja,” he said, adding that the former minister would be involved in active politics.

Raja, however, would not be able to call on his leader as the CBI court banned him from visiting Tamil Nadu.
