Jaya's offer 'shows her desperation for power'

New Delhi: DMK today said Jayalalithaa's promise of 'unconditional support' to UPA government in return of sacking A Raja shows the AIADMK chief's 'desperation' to come to power and made it clear that decision on a single minister does not lead to break-up of alliances.

A senior DMK leader, who did not wanted to be quoted, said Jayalalithaa is 'desperate to come to power' through any means.
"This shows her desperation to come to power. She is desperate for power... what do we say about such statements," the leader said.

He also said a decision on 'one minister does not lead to break-up of alliances'.

"We are in an alliance with Congress and it is strong. It will continue," the leader said. He was reacting to Jayalalithaa asking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to sack Telecom Minister Raja over the 2G Spectrum scam with a promise of 'unconditional' support of 18 MPs if the DMK withdrew support.

The Congress was dismissive about the offer.

"Things have reached such a stage and such a crescendo today that any delay in action against Raja would permanently damage the very credibility of the Congress and put a very big question mark on its future," she told a TV news channel.

"There are other like-minded leaders. I have spoken to them. My party has 9 MPs in Lok Sabha. The parties have enough numbers. What is holding back the Congress now?" she asked.

Earlier, DMK spokesperson T K S Elangovan said there was no need for Raja to resign as he has done everything according to TRAI norms in allocation of 2G Spectrum.
