JD-S MLAs throw House into chaos
The war of briefcases versus suitcases! On Day Four of the Assembly session, the Janata Dal (S) marched into the Vidhana Soudha carrying a huge suitcase overflowing with documents purportedly about the land scam of which the hapless Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa stands accused.
Blowing on a conch and with cymbals clashing, the JD(S) led by party leader H.D. Revanna marched in with an oversize suitcase. The provocation? In an Assembly short of work and long on drama, the chief minister on Tuesday had whipped out two voluminous files from his briefcase and threatened to expose Janata Dal (S) supremo, Mr H.D. Deve Gowda, and his son H.D. Kumaraswamy if they continued to make “baseless allegations” against him. “Yesterday the CM brought a suitcase and showed to the House that he had documents against Mr Deve Gowda and his sons. Today we have brought documents over Yeddyurappa’s scandals, but it doesn’t fit in a briefcase, so we brought a suitcase,” said Mr Revanna, defending his action.
As the House plunged into chaos and pandemonium, guards took away the conch and the gong but Mr Revanna managed to give the guards the slip and bring placards and the offending suitcase into the Assembly.
Law minister Kumar clarified that unlike Mr Revanna and his suitcase, Mr Yeddyurappa was allowed to bring in his briefcase as it was used to carry documents into the House.
