JD-U, BJP to discuss seat swap
The ruling JD(U) and BJP are likely to initiate their talks on swapping of seats for the Bihar Assembly elections in the coming week. Senior JD(U) leaders have stated that the talks would be concluded without any hiccup much before nominations are filed for the first phase of the elections in the state.
The two parties have reportedly prepared a list of Assembly constituencies on which they would seek swapping in the light of changed demography due to the delimitation. “The two parties have principally agreed that based on analysis of strength of each party after the delimitation exercise the swapping of seats will be considered. In the coming week senior leaders of the two part should start talking so that the process is concluded at the earliest,” stated senior JD(U) leader Shaym Razak.
The BJP is stated to have drawn a list of about 15 to 20 Assembly seats on which the party want swapping with the JD(U), which has also prepared a list of same number of seats. Sources revealed that the sitting seats of both the parties would not prominently figure during the talks for swapping except for those where demography has changed substantially and those which have either been reserved or unreserved.
“The BJP will be staking claims on some of the JD(U) seats which have been unreserved. Similarly, the JD(U) wants those seats which were with the BJP in the 2005 elections but now have been reserved,” stated a senior JD(U) leader.
The JD(U) had contested on 138 Assembly seats in the 2005 elections, while the BJP had got 105 as per the seat sharing adjustment between the two parties, who will be following the same arrangement this year also.
