JD-U comes out in omar’s support
The JD(U) on Thursday came in support of the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdu-llah for his reported tweet on Afzal Guru issue, while taking a dig at BJP for raising objections.
The JD(U) spokesp-erson Shivanand Tiwari asked why the BJP had not raised eyebrows when the matter relating to former PM Rajiv Gan-dhi’s killers had come up. “What Omar Abd-ullah is saying is correct. What is wrong in saying that there would have been an uproar if resolution had been passed on amnesty to Afzal Guru by the J&K Assembly?” Mr Tiw-ari said. The J&K chief minister had tweeted that if the state Assembly had passed a resolution against the death sentence given to Afzal Guru as was done by the Tamil Nadu Asse-mbly for the killers of Rajiv Gandhi, the reaction would not have been as muted as it is now. The BJP had termed Mr Abdullah’s comments on Twitter as “unfortunate” and said a Hurriyat leader making such statements is understandable but not from a responsible chief minister.
