JD-U to demand Muslim sub-plan
In a bid to reach out to the Muslims ahead of the Bihar elections, the JD(U) in its national executive meeting passed a resolution to demand for a sub-plan on the pattern of one for the scheduled tribes for the minorities. The JD(U) also sought for the implementation of the Rangnath Mishra Commission report for reservation for the Muslims in jobs.
On the first day of the two days meeting of the national executive meeting of the JD(U), the party introduced five resolutions on issues like corruption, Kashmir issue, politics, foriegn policy and Centre-state relations. Later addressing the media, the JD(U) spokesman and secretary general K.C. Tyagi, stated that for the first time the party has called for a sub-plan for the Muslims on the lines of the Scheduled Tribes to deal with poverty among the minorities. The demand for the sub-plan for Muslims was moved in the form of a political resolution in the meeting. He also stated that notwithstanding the stand of the alliance partner, the BJP, the JD(U) is in favour of finding a solution to the Kashmir problem within the ambit of Article 370 and by engaging the broader civil society in the valley.
The national executive meeting is being attended by the Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, party chief Sharad Yadav, a host of Bihar Cabinet ministers and other leaders. The party, while introducing another resolution on corruption, targeted the UPA government for protecting tainted ministers. Apparently, the JD(U) is gearing up to launch an offensive against the UPA, after the Nitish Kumar-led state government came under attack due to the CAG report. “The PM is helpless against corrupt ministers of alliance parties in order to save his government. This has further encouraged corruption, with the 2G spectrum case, IPL controversy and the mismanagement of funds in the Commonwealth Games,” the resolution on corruption stated.
The party also demanded caste based census to redefine poverty. “There is a need to redefine poverty. For this the caste based census is important,” Mr Tyagi stated, while supporting the decision of the UP chief minister Mayawati, to enrol Dalit women to cook food in the mid-day meal scheme in the state schools.
