JD-U dismisses Bihar BJP split charges

Even as Bihar BJP leaders on Tuesday accused former ally JD(U) of trying to engineer a split among the saffron party’s 91 MLAs, JD(U) leaders dismissed the charges, saying the issue of Mr Narendra Modi was at the root of the conflict.

Bihar agriculture minister and senior JD(U) leader Narendra Singh claimed “at least 42 BJP legislators and seven RJD legislators” were ready to join the JD(U).
Senior Bihar BJP leaders, including Mr Sushil Modi, Mr Pandey, Mr Nand Kishore Yadav and the BJP’s Bihar in-charge Debendra Pradhan, met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday morning and reportedly discussed the crisis unfolding in the state unit.
BJP national vice-president and former Union minister C.P. Thakur admitted there was “much unhappiness” among several MLAs and leaders in the state unit.
