JD-U leader drives nails into boy’s foot
Two barbaric assaults on a woman and a child in Bihar and the callousness shown by police this week have freshly called into question the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government’s claims of rule of law in the state. Lower-rung leaders of the ruling JD(U) were allegedly among the perpetrators in both the incidents.
A 12-year-old boy at Simri-Bakhtiyarpur in the northern Saharsa district had two metal nails forcibly driven into his foot by a merciless local JD(U) leader who charged him of theft on Wednesday. Hooligans with alleged patronage of a JD(U) leader in Samastipur poured acid into both the eyes of a woman, putting her sense of sight in grave danger a couple of days before. The police took no action against the perpetrators despite public protests and reports in the media.
Chandramani Singh, the JD(U)’s block president at Simri-Bakhtiyarpur and son of a former MLA, accused young Lalu of having stolen a fan from his electronics goods shop and then beat him brutally after tying up the boy with a thick rope. He then allegedly drove two nails into the sole of Lalu’s foot to teach him a lesson. The boy’s entire body bears numerous marks of thrashing. The incident prompted the shocked local people to block a road and demand action by the police on Thursday.

CMS, ward boy are suspended

The UP government on Thursday removed Dr Shishir Kumar , the chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the Babu Banarsi Das District hospital in Bulandshahr while the ward boy who was caught on camera giving stitches to patients, has also been suspended. TV channels had aired a video of a sweeper giving stitches to a young boy.
