JD-U MP against JPC in 2G scam
Taking a stand opposite to that of his party, JD(U) MP Jai Narayan Prasad Nishad on Thursday said there was no need for a JPC probe into 2G spectrum issue and the Opposition should accept government’s offer to hold a special session to discuss the contentious matter.
JD(U) was quick to rubbish his statement, with party president Sharad Yadav saying it amounted to “indiscipline” and action would be contemplated against him.
Mr Nishad, virtually toeing government line, said, “My opinion is that there is no need for a JPC probe into the 2G issue.”
He argued that the government’s offer to hold a special session to discuss the matter “is enough”. “Moreover, the Supreme court and CBI is probing the case,” the Lok Sabha Member from Muzaffarpur in Bihar told reporters here.
His views are in contrast to the NDA’s persistent demand for a JPC probe on the issue and even JD(U) president recently rubbished Prime Minister Dr Manomhan Singh’s offer to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The four time MP also said that the “first come first serve” policy of the telecom ministry, which former minister A. Raja has claimed he was following while allocating 2G spectrum, was given shape when the NDA government was in power.
