JD(S)-BJP poll tie-up an experiment, says Gowda
Udupi: The JD(S)-BJP tie-up for the Mandya and Bengaluru (rural) Lok Sabha bypolls seems to be a prelude to a similar arrangement in the 2014 Parliamentary elections.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, D.V. Sadananda Gowda, hinted as much when he described the BJP’s support for the JD(S) in the Lok Sabha bypolls in the state as an "experiment."
In Karkala to attend a cultural programme for BJP workers on Saturday, he said, "The NDA is an alliance of political parties that aims to bring a non-Congress government to power. Our tie-up with the JD(S) in the bypolls is an experiment. Based on the outcome our party leaders will decide what is to be done in the coming parliamentary polls.”
When his attention was drawn to rumours that AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi would contest from the Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency, Gowda wasdismissive. “Who is Rahul Gandhi? He is not someone extraordinary. Be it Rahul or Sonia Gandhi, the BJP is ready to fight them in the Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency. If the party decides to field me I am ready to contest,” he declared.
