JD(U), BJP prepare for defence
New Delhi, July 16: With Assembly elections fast approaching in Bihar, the state’s Chief Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, and his team are on a backfoot after the Patna High Court order for a CBI probe into irregular withdrawals from the state treasury. They were desperately trying to hold up the image of a clean government ahead of the elections.
The legal brains of both camps are preparing their defence. The Opposition parties in the state have already started demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister on the issue. A senior BJP functionary said “the order coming at this juncture is not good for the image of the coalition government.”
A section of JD(U) leaders, however, feel that despite the development and welfare works, “some ministers were getting greedy.” For them, this was “inevitable”. The Nitish Kumar-led government is also being accused of rubbing shoulders with criminal elements and going soft on Maoists.
