Jet aborts landing to avoid plane on runway

A major collision between a Jet Airways plane and an IndiGo aircraft was averted on Wednesday night. The Jet Airways pilot aborted landing on seeing the IndiGo aircraft on the runway. The DGCA, however, said it was not a “near miss” but a “runway incursion”.

The incident occurred at 9.04 pm Wednesday when Jet Airways Flight 9W 616 from Kolkata to Mumbai was preparing to land after being given ATC clearance. However, during the appr-oach, the pilot found an IndiGo aircraft on the runway. The Jet pilot was informed by the ATC to abort. The pilot performed a “roundabout” and was told to keep circling until the Indigo aircraft was remo-ved.
