Jethmalani blames CBI of leaking info on Shah
Noted lawyer and BJP MP Ram Jethmalani on Tuesday accused the CBI of leaking details of chargesheet against former Gujarat minister Amit Shah to the media. Mr Jethmalani contended that while media was carrying details of the chargesheet, Mr Shah is yet to be provided with the copy of the chargesheet.
The former Gujarat minister, who is also a close aide of state chief minister Narendra Modi, is facing murder, extortion and other charges in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case. He resigned from his post on last Saturday after a charge sheet was filed against him. A day later he was arrested and sent to judicial custody till August 7.
“The accused does not have the chargesheet but the media has it. This is the CBI’s design,” said Mr Jethmalani who is providing legal assistance to the former state minister. “It is a misuse of the CBI and is improper. I condemn it. CBI is holding press conferences,” he added. The senior lawyer said that the court had ordered that a copy of the chargesheet be handed over to Mr Shah.
On Monday, soon after taking oath as a BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, Mr Jethmalani rushed to Ahmedabad to represent Mr Shah, who is lodged in Sabarmati jail.
He told the court that they had no problem with the interrogation of the BJP leader.
