J&K: 2 die due to snow, rain

Snow and rain in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir led to the death of two women even as temperatures rose at some places in the northern plains after a brief respite.

While one woman died in a house collapse at Gand-Pathri near Pahalgam, another woman died due to the cold at Lehwan-Larnoo in Kokernag. The unseasonal snow and rains also claimed the lives of over 900 animals in Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir.
In Himachal Pradesh, marginal variation in day and night temperatures was observed as the weather was windy with light rain at isolated places. State capital Shimla recorded a high of 25.9 degrees against 25.6 degrees on Saturday. Dharamsala experienced 6 mm of rain but the maximum temperature rose marginally to 30.6 degrees.
Una was the hottest in the state as the temperature there rose by 1.2 degrees to touch 39 degrees. Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti was the coldest with the low being recorded at 2.5 degrees, four degrees below normal.
In the northern plains, including Haryana and Punjab, rains in the past two days had led to a dip in daytime temperatures, giving a brief respite to the people. The mercury was, however, on the upswing today with Hisar recording a high of 44.5 degrees.
Ambala saw the mercury settle at 40.2 degrees and in Karnal, the high stood at 40.4 degrees. On Saturday, Ambala had experienced a high of 38.6 degrees and Karnal 37.8 degrees.
