J&K minister escapes bid on life, PSO killed
Ali Muhammad Sagar, a senior ruling National Conference (NC) leader and Jammu and Kashmir’s minister for rural development and panchayat raj, escaped unhurt when suspected militants opened fire at his convoy here on Sunday evening. However, one of his personal security guards, among five persons injured in the incident, died soon after he was admitted to hospital.
The slain PSO has been identified as Gulzar Ahmed. No militant outfit has owned responsibility for the act.
Police sources here said that Mr Sagar’s cavalcade came under attack at Zaldagar in central Srinagar when he was on way to attend the engagement ceremony of his niece at his ancestral house at Shah Mohalla. His escort returned fire but the assailants fled through the dark alleys. No arrests were made immediately.
