JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik arrested
Muhammad Yasin Malik, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), was held here on Thursday after protests following the arrest of a local.
The police here said Malik and some of his associates were involved in vandalising the Maisuma police station after one person was arrested here following a criminal complaint against him by a local taxi driver. “Yasin Malik along with his associates went inside the Maisuma police station and intimidated and attacked the policemen, besides vandalising some items of the office," a police statement released here said.
“He, along with his associates, disturbed the peace in the area. They indulged in disruption of movement of traffic on the road in the Budshah Chowk. A first information report (FIR) has been registered and Yasin Malik, along with an associate, has been arrested,” the statement said.
Tension gripped the sensitive Maisuma locality where shops and businesses shut down after the news of Malik's arrest spread in the area. The police statement also said: “A complaint was lodged by one Ishfaq Hussain Shah, a taxi driver, at Maisuma police station that he was attacked by some unidentified person." Shah alleged that he was beaten up by the driver Aashiq Hussain Dar, who also snatched some money from him.
