Joshi asks states to do more for job scheme
Minister for rural development and panchayati raj, C.P. Joshi, pulled up the states over the performance of flagship MGNREGA and asked them to do more. He was addressing the performance review committee meeting.
Among the states, UP, Bihar, Gujarat and West Bengal have not done enough to implement MGNREGA. Most of the problems related to MGNREGA are delayed payment of wages, faulty muster rolls, and non-issuance of job cards.
In many districts in these states, fund utilisation certificates have not been submitted to the government, said sources. The minister expressed concern and asked the state administrators looking after the scheme to immediately address the grievances of rural masses for speedy and effective implementation of the act.
According to sources, there has been a decline in the number of households provided employment in many districts like Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Kushi Nagar, Ballia, Etah, Allahabad, Baghpat, Deoria, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Muzzafarnagar.
