Joshi: Comments were improper
Senior BJP leader and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman M.M. Joshi on Wednesday said telecom minister Kapil Sibal’s remarks over CAG report on 2G spectrum allocation were “improper and against the propriety”.
“Sibal’s remarks were improper and against the propriety. His remarks have damaged the prestige of the CAG as well as the PAC. That was not right in any way,” Dr Joshi said. The PAC chairman asserted that CAG is a constitutional body which scrutinises government spending. “He (Sibal) could have spoken to the committee if he had any misgivings over the CAG,” the senior BJP leader said. He also added that the PAC members, in a meeting on Wednesday, had suggested that “appropriate measures should be taken to prevent such incidents (anybody speaking against constitutional authorities) in the future”. When asked whether the PAC will take any action on this issue, Dr Joshi said the committee “is thinking over that”. Mr Sibal had questioned the findings of the CAG report related to the 2G spectrum allotment saying its estimate of `1.76 lakh crores loss to the exchequer was “utterly erroneous”.
