Jubilant BJP upbeat, AICC HQ desolate
For the BJP, victory in the Bihar Assembly polls was truly a “victory of optimism over despair”. It was after a “long interval” that the BJP headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road, “spent so much” on crackers and sweets on Wednesday.
Party workers were seen bursting crackers and distributing sweets. Since morning, mediapersons had started thronging the BJP central office. The party’s national spokespersons were also present since early morning, giving reactions to news channels and the print media. Party chief Nitin Gadkari, along with other leaders, were getting poll result updates every now and then from leaders in Bihar. In almost every room in the party headquarters, party workers were seen glued to the television, making calls to verify the figures, which were showing the BJP marching towards a landslide victory.
On the other hand, there existed a sombre mood at the AICC headquarters as the Bihar Assembly polls results proved disastrous for the party. There were only a few senior leaders who could be spotted at 24, Akbar Road.
Unlike the time when party tickets were being distributed, not even a single worker could be seen in and around the campus. It used to be a mela-like situation for more than a fortnight when the tickets were being decided by the party’s central leadership. But on result day, as the party failed to retain even its previous tally of nine, the Congress headquarters sported mostly a deserted look, except for a few regular mediapersons.
