Jundal mom claims no DNA sample taken
The family of Zabiuddin Ansari, alias Abu Jundal, alleged to have played a key role in the 26/11 terror attacks, on Thursday addressed the media, defending his name and refuting allegations that he was a terrorist.
The development comes close on the heels of media reports that Jundal’s DNA samples had been sent to Saudi Arabia to prove that he was an Indian and wanted for the November 2008 attacks. His mother Rehana Ansari on Thursday said that no member of her family had ever been subjected to a DNA test.
“My son is a good namazi and I can never believe that he could be involved in such a heinous act. The probe against him should be conducted in a proper manner,” Ms Ansari said.
She, however, confirmed that Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers had visited her residence several times. She said that IB officials had even turned up at 3 am once, asking about Jundal’s whereabouts. “Many of our relatives have distanced themselves and the marriage of one of my daughters fell apart after her in-laws heard about the reports against him,” she added. Ms Ansari has expressed willingness to meet her son in prison, but when asked what she would say to him, she came close to breaking down and could not speak any further.
