K’taka CM must quit, says Gowda
Janata Dal supremo and former Prime Minister Deve Gowda on Friday demanded the resignation of Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and allow the judicial inquiry ordered to be conducted in a free and fair manner. Even as he welcomed the decision of Mr Yeddyurappa to order a probe into the denotification that covers the last 16 years, he also demanded the inclusion of the Bengaluru-Mysore corridor project into the ambit of the inquiry.
Mr Gowda, who held a press conference in the capital, said, “I welcome the decision of the Yeddyurappa government to enlarge the scope of the probe from 10 years to 16 years. It will now cover the period when I was the chief minister. My demand is that the probe should also include the Bengaluru-Mysore infrastructure corridor project scam.”
Calling upon Mr Yeddyurappa to step down, he said, “If the inquiry has to be free and fair, then he should resign.”
He alleged that the staff of the chief minister’ office have removed all the files connected with the involvement of his family members from the offices of the Bangalore Development Authority and Bangalore Metropolitan City Corporation to cover up their tracks.
[Meanwhile, the JD(S) made a fresh charge against Mr Yeddyurappa, alleging that a firm owned by the BJP leader’s family had received `6 crores from a mining firm for licence to operate in banned areas, reports PTI. JD(S) state unit president H.D. Kumaraswamy said the firm had transferred the amount to two firms owned by Mr Yeddyurappa’s sons, daughters-in-law and son-in-law.]
The mining firm owner had transferred the amount to these two firms during March, 2009, he claimed.
