K’taka Gov: Lokayukta or police must probe scam
Karnataka governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Sunday took strong exception to the state government’s decision to order a judicial probe into alleged land scams, which involve even chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, instead of turning them over to the Lokayukta.
Mr Bhardwaj told reporters the state government had “deliberately” taken such a step “only to create confusion”. The governor said that the Supreme Court had ruled in 1993 that any case involving corruption must be investigated by an appropriate authority like the police or the Lokayukta.
Mr Bhardwaj noted that the only forum competent to investigate such offences was the police. “Nobody else has the power. The Lokayukta has a police force, the government has a police force. Wherever there is a crime, it must be investigated by the police,” he said.

Iran: Major step ahead in N-plans
Tehran, Dec. 5: Iran announced what it called a major step forward in its nuclear programme on Sunday, showing determination to pursue it a day before talks in Geneva on December 6 and 7 with six world powers which fear Tehran may be seeking atomic bombs.
Nuclear energy chief Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran would use domestically produced uranium concentrates, known as yellowcake, for the first time at a key nuclear facility, cutting its reliance on imports of the key ingredient for nuclear fuel.
“This means that Iran has become self-sufficient in the entire fuel cycle,” Mr Ali Akbar Salehi said.
