K’taka HC stays probe on Yeddy
Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa earned respite a day after the Lokayukta police commenced an inquiry against him in the case of illegal denotification and acquisition of land with the Karnataka high court ordering a stay of the special court’s verdict on Tuesday.
The inquiry by the Lokayukta police will come to a halt with the stay given by Justice K.N/ Keshavanarayana following a petition by R.N. Sohan Kumar, son-in-law of Mr Yeddyurappa.
The court also ordered issue of notice to Sirajin Basha, an advocate, who lodged a complaint against Mr Yeddyurappa in the special Lokayukta court. A battery of senior advocates led by former advocate general, B.V. Acharya, moved the petition in the high court on behalf of Mr Sohan Kumar.
The petition sought quashing of the special court’s order on grounds that taking cognisance of the private complaint against Mr Yeddyurappa and others was arbitrary, illegal and capricious.
It stated that the 20-page order of the special court has not assigned any reasons for taking cognisance of offences listed in the complaint.
Mr C.B. Hippargi, judge of the special court, had dismissed Mr Sohan Kumar’s application and took cognisance of offences against Mr Yeddyurappa and others on February 26.
