Kalmadi grilled over shady deals
Jan. 5: The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman, Mr Suresh Kalmadi, reached the CBI office at about 10 am and left at around 7 pm, after being questioned. He may be called for questioning again by the CBI.
According to sources, CBI officials questioned Mr Kalmadi about the controversial QBR contract given to a London-based firm. “CBI officials also questioned Mr Kalmadi about the visit of Darbari and Mohindroo to London for the QBR last year when the event did not fall under their operational ambit. Mr Kalmadi was also asked about the frequent visits of some of his personal staff to London in connection with the QBR,” sources added. He was also asked questions related to the blackmail letter, purportedly demanding Rs 4 crore from him in exchange for a CD containing damaging information, recovered by the CBI from his Delhi residence.
Some of the OC top brass, including Mr Kalmadi, may be asked by the government to step down from the posts they hold in a day or two, sources said.
Agency officials also put specific questions to Mr Kalmadi related to the TSR system contract awarded to a Swiss company.
