Kalmadi may face CBI Monday
The CBI, which is investigating various cases of alleged corruption in the preparations for the Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG), has called CWG organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi for questioning. He is expected to appear before the agency on Monday.
According to sources, Mr Kalmadi is likely to be questioned by the CBI in connection with alleged irregularities in CWG contracts related to overlays, sponsorship and ticketing. The agency on Wednesday questioned two close aides of Mr Kalmadi — Manoj Bhure (political adviser to the OC chairman) and his personal secretary, P.K. Srivastava. Sources said the CBI may make some “significant arrests” in connection with its probe related to the Queen’s Baton Relay held in London last year.
The CBI had on Tuesday questioned OC secretary-general Lalit Bhanot, Bhure and another official, R.K. Sacheti. Sources said the officials were questioned at length about several contracts. The CBI had earlier conducted raids at the residences of Mr Kalmadi, Mr Bhanot, Mr Sacheti and Ms Sangeeta Welingkar, member of the Games Image and Look Group.
