Kamat meets Jairam over airport
Union minister of state for communications and IT, Gurudas Kamat on Wednesday met environment minister Jairam Ramesh and strongly pleaded for the clearance of Navi Mumbai International Airport. Mr Ramesh is expected to visit Mumbai at the end of this month for a on-the-spot study of the problems faced in re-development of the
city in view of the CRZ regulations. Mr Kamat, who has been winning the Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai, had also headed the Mumbai regional Congress committee.
He discussed in detail various impediments in the development of Mumbai due to CRZ Regulations which he felt, needed to be diluted for construction of number of roads, bridges and re-development of several colonies, slums affected due to CRZ Regulations.
Mr Kamat said the stringent CRZ rules have affected the works of re-development of poor and middle income colonies and slums. It has also halted many developmental works like the Versova-Goregaon Link Road, re-development of Bangur Nagar in Goregaon and Sardar Vallabhai Patel Nagar in Versova and several other projects. He invited Mr Ramesh for on-the-site inspection to get a fair idea and stated emphatically that his proposal last month in which 51 per cent government/MHADA participation was insisted upon, was not workable.
