Five days after she got bail in the 2G spectrum scam, DMK MP Kanimozhi on Saturday reached Chennai to a rousing reception as hundreds of party cadres thronged the airport while the roads leading to her home were strung with banners and party flags.

Kanimozhi's father and DMK president M. Karunanidhi, his son M.K. Stalin, daughter Selvi, wife Dayalu Ammal and other family members, DMK MPs, leaders and cadres received her at the airport.

She was accompanied by her husband Aravindan and son Aditya. She drove down to her CIT Colony residence sitting alongside Karunanidhi in his car. In her colony, supporters played drums and other instruments.

Kanimozhi, who was given bail by the Delhi High Court on November 28, walked out of Tihar jail here the next day after spending close to 200 days there because of her alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum case. Five others accused in the case were also released with her.

Speaking to reporters before boarding the flight in New Delhi, Kanimozhi said: "I am very happy to go back to Chennai. This is the first step and I will prove my innocence."

Expressing her happiness over people charged in the spectrum scam getting bail, Kanimozhi said: "More than that, I have to prove my innocence."

The 43-year-old MP was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in May in connection with alleged payment of Rs.214 crore by the DB Group to DMK-run Kalaignar TV in which she is one of the directors.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
