Karat runs family party, says Karuna
Taking exception to CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat accusing him of promoting family rule, DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Thursday sought to turn the tables on the communist leader by pointing out that Mrs Brinda Karat too enjoyed important position in the Marxist party.
“He (Karat) has described DMK as Kudumba Munne-tra Kazhagam (family development party). Mrs Brinda Karat, who works along with him, is the ans-wer for this charge,” he wro-te in Murasoli.
Referring to Mr Karat’s remarks that it was pathetic to see that the DMK, a pioneer in state autonomy and federalism, was trying to hold on to power by using the ‘loot’ money, Mr Karu-nanidhi said his ‘friend’ Karat was ignorant of the “good words” spoken by CPI(M) veteran EMS Nam-boodiripad about the DMK for its resistance during the MISA. Mr Karunanidhi recalled many visits of Karat to his house a few years ago, especially at the height of Indo-US nuclear agreement over which the Congress and its then-ally Left were divided. “I don’t know why Karat, a friend who has found place in my heart, is spreading canards,” the DMK chief said.
