Karmapa gets quizzed again, 2 others held
Police and revenue officials on Sunday questioned the Karmapa Lama, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, for the second day in succession on the source of huge stacks of currency found inside his Sidhbari (Dhara-msala) abode as well as suggestions of a possible China connection. The young monk was questioned over two hours, other Himachal police teams moved in to arrest Dharamsala businessman Kul Prakash Bhardwaj and D.K. Dhar, manager of the Ambala branch of Corpo-ration Bank. The two were held over “dubious land deals” involving Tibetan money. A senior police officer said the Karmapa’s responses were “not satisfactory”, and he may be questioned further.

Al-Jazeera gets banned, news hub shut down
Dubai, Jan. 30: The pan-Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera said Sunday the Egyptian authorities had closed its Cairo news hub overseeing coverage of the massive street protests, denouncing it as an attempt to “stifle and repress” open reporting.
The Qatar-based network had provided round-the- clock coverage of the protests in Egypt.
