DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Sunday reiterated that Jayalalithaa was indulging in vendetta politics by arresting his party leaders on false land grabbing charges.

In a question-answer statement, Mr Karunanidhi said that the manner in which DMK leaders were being arrested clearly shows it was a political vendetta.

Ms Jayalalithaa had denied Mr Karunanidhi’s charge that she had unleashed “vendetta politics” against his partymenand said that police were acting on “genuine complaints filed by persons with no political backing.”

On Jayalalithaa’s denial of arresting DMK treasurer M. K. Stalin, the former CM pointed out media reports and asked, “If Mr Stalin was not arrested, why he was taken in police vehicle?”

He said if the police wanted to arrest Kalavanan, DMK Tiruvarur district secretary, they could have done that in the morning itself. “Even the reporters who came to Anna Arivalayam on Saturday asked my response to the arrest of Mr Stalin and he was released following spontaneous protest across the state. But to hide the truth, Jayalalithaa is saying that Stalin was not arrested at all,” he said.

On a question on Jayalalithaa asking for Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi’s response to A Raja’s charges against them, DMK chief said that prior to the polls, Jayalalithaa offered unconditional support to the UPA if it takes action against A. Raja in 2-G scam and now she wants an explanation. “Few of Congress leaders who have been blabbering something to have an alliance with AIADMK deserve this and more,” he said.

The DMK leader also sarcastically commented on the film industry for supporting AIADMK and said the decision to remove tax waiver for films with excessive violence and obscenity is “first achievement” by the AIADMK.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
