Kasab may be hanged by yearend
May 11: Union law and justice minister M. Veerappa Moily on Tuesday stated that Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab, who has been sentenced to death in the 26/11 Mumbai attack case, could be hanged within a year.
Speaking to a television channel, the law minister stated that if Kasab appealed against his death sentence then it would be fast tracked and the Pakistani terrorist would be hanged in a year’s time. “Even if the case goes in appeal, it will and should be fast tracked. Kasab will be hanged in next one year. He committed a barbaric act in front of so many witnesses,” Mr Moily said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Union home secretary G.K. Pillai also stated today that Kasab may be hanged by the end of this year provided there is no legal bar.
“If there is no petition from him (Kasab) challenging the sessions court verdict in the higher court... He can be hanged by the year-end,” Union home secretary G.K. Pillai told a television news channel. When asked about the status of Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru’s mercy petition, Mr Pillai said, “It is with the government for consideration.”
