Kate’s baby: The bet’s on a royal beti
London: As a vigil began outside St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, central London, Britons are indulging in last-minute betting as they wait for the birth of the first child of Prince William and his wife Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.
While the exact date has been kept secret, bookmakers William Hill said the majority of its customers believe that Thursday, July 11 is the day when the royal heir will be born.
Britons are backing a female heir to the British throne, with Ladbrokes offering betting on girl (2/5) and boy (2/1) and William Hill 4/7 for female and 5/4 for male.
Alexandra is the favourite name for the new baby. The other options are Charlotte, Diana, Elizabeth and Victoria. A large amount of bets have also been placed on the name James.
The baby, if a girl, will be titled Princess after Queen Elizabeth II earlier this year amended an old rule that decreed otherwise.
