KCBC raps UDF for power struggle
Kochi: The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) on Thursday came down heavily on the UDF government for its "ineptitude in settling the power struggle" - a reference to the deputy CM issue - and allowing the matter to create communal discontent.
A resolution adopted by the KCBC at the end of its threeday monsoon session here said that the government failed to address issues like drought and drinking water shortage despite a long summer and it did not take any steps to prevent rain-related diseases either.
The ruling front and the government have been caught in "an unnecessary and irrelevant wrangling over power sharing," the resolution said, warning that the issue would end up only in a communal polarization if it was allowed to drag on. "Demands for rights and posts are normal in a democracy.
An efficient administration will settle them in quick time," it said. The bishops also appealed to leaders of political parties and community organisations not to allow such issues to create communal divide and promised all support for maintaining peace between various communities in the state.
Another resolution asked the government to settle the problems faced by special schools at the earliest. The KCBC also decided to encourage organ donation, besides promising all efforts to "create awareness on having a Malayalam culture in view of the language having received cultural language status."
