Keep Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple treasure details secret, say royals
Upset by the media speculation about the treasure retrieved from the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, the Travancore Royal family will appeal to the Supreme Court on Wednesday to keep its details a secret.
A senior palace official told Deccan Chronicle that the family will make this appeal when the petition submitted by one of the elder members, Moolam Tirunal Ramavarma, to implead in the temple case, comes up before the SC.
“The family is upset by this media frenzy and wants things to kept under wraps till the inventory is over,” said the official.
What irked the royals further was the comments made by the SC observer, Justice C.S. Rajan that he was “dazzled” by the sight of the treasure inside the temple. In an interview to a TV channel, Justice Rajan had said that he had never laid eyes on so much gold in his entire life.
“All these disclosures have created a security situation which would prevent devotees of the city from having a quite darshan of Lord Padmanabha,” said the palace official. “The royals are upset by this.”
According to the official, the state government did not properly consult the royal family while imposing new security arrangements on the temple.
